Health Education Thames Valley (HETV – formerly the Oxford Deanery) covers the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire and provides first class experience in a wide range of medical specialties in the following Trusts:
Rotations will be a combination of 3, 4 or 6 month attachments. All the major medical specialties are offered, including acute medicine and in addition, the opportunity for some unique specialties such as bone infection (the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre) and Intensive care. Rotations are mapped to the 2 years covering IMT1 and IMT2.IMT3 rotations are agreed during the IMT2 year.
Wherever possible, we try to provide experience in both the teaching hospital and district general hospital environments.
Each Trust provides local curriculum teaching, run by the college tutors. Simulation training is run at all sites. In addition, HETV runs training days centrally. Oxford is a centre of academic excellence and there is opportunity for ‘out of programme experience’ to pursue a particular research or other interest.
The Thames Valley is a particularly attractive part of the country with beautiful countryside. Although geographically spread out, the region has excellent transport networks being within the M40 and M4 corridors. There is also a very good rail network covering the region and with easy access into London. Oxford itself is a beautiful city, offering culture, excellent shopping and much more!
